“Give me 20 D Energizers… D muthafucka! D!”

What makes Radio Raheem’s character so dope? :

1. A pinky ring will have you looking fly. Times that by 4 and you got a four-finga ring (also serves as brass knuckles) …one of the best innovations in jewelry. Now double that with a lil philosophy on Love and Hate, you got the illest dude on the block.

2. He was throwing D’s on it before Rich Boy knew what dubs were. Dude was financially committed to purchasing 20 D batteries…and batteries ain’t cheap. I don’t even know where to find D batteries anymore, plus those 20 of them joints would cost like $30-40 bucks…

3. Radio Raheem stays fit. 20 D batteries and boombox? …all day? NOT MEEEEEEE!!

4. Soundtrack. He lost points for only playing one track all the time, but the hardness of “Fight Power” in the film makes it absolutely appropriate. He’s you, your cousin, uncle, maybe dad, or that bum ass dude with a cell phone playing ringtone on the train. Again, he is the representation of that dude committed to his music and hip hop culture.

5. The chokehold. His murder was the turning point; it placed police brutality in plain view and sparked the humiliation, frustration, and anger in all of us. The garbage can in Sal’s Pizzeria was the perfect release for our feelings.
